Death of Thomas D. Stokes: A telegram received in this city yesterday announced the death, at 10:10 A. M., in Danville, of Dr. Thomas D. Stokes, a brother of Mr. A. Y. Stokes of this city. Dr. Stokes had long been a prominent, useful, and highly esteemed citizen of Danville. He was born in Caswell County, N. C., in February, 1817. In 1838 - 39 he attended medical lectures at the University of Pennsylvania, and first practiced medicine about a year at Chalk Level, in Pittsylvania, and then removed to Danville, where he had since resided.

He was a partner consecutively with Dr. N. T. Green, Dr. William S. Green and Dr. James C. Green. The deceased was a man of the highest personal character, of refined tastes, of good business capacity, and was universally respected. His death was caused by Bright's disease, from which he had long suffered. Mr. A. Y. Stokes went to Danville yesterday afternoon to attend the burial this afternoon. Mrs. Stokes followed on the morning train.
