Obituary
Elizabeth Groves Hoffman, 97 of Remington, VA died on Monday, December 9, 2013 at her residence.
She was born on Sept. 10, 1916 at Bealeton, VA to the late Ottaway A. and Pearl Groves. She graduated from Bealeton High School and lived most of her life in Remington with her immediate family. She married Wynant Hoffman on December 28, 1940 who preceded her in death on December 26, 1981. From 1962 - 1982 they owned and operated the Remington Laundramat as a joint venture, she as the daily caretaker and he as the "all around handyman".
In 1986 she was elected to the Remington Town Council and served from 1986 unto 1998. During this time she served on both the police and cemetery committees. She proudly served on the cemetery committee as she wanted the cemetery to always be in a pristine condition for not only her family but for everyone else. She was known as the town historian because many times the employees of the town would send visitors to her for information about their families and the town history which she always enjoyed sharing. She was also our family genealogist who kept our history up to date and was still able to provide us with data until this date.
She is survived by her daughters, Becky Irvin Aylor (Bruce) of Haymarket, VA and Sandra Lee Hoffman of Centreville, VA; grandchildren- Monte (Pat) Irvin, Keith (Jenny) Irvin, and Charlene Hoffman; great grandchildren- Sarah Irvin, Travis Irvin, Skylar Irvin and Seth Irvin.
Additional survivors include her sisters- Dorothy G. Utz, of Culpeper and Alice G. Hanson of Virginia Beach; brother- John Groves (Frances) of Remington; sisters-in-law- Rachel Mills and Helen Groves and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son- Douglas Hoffman; sisters- Virgie Leach, Elva Embrey, Maxie Samuels, and Mary Wood; brothers- Evans, Albert, Clifford, Calvin, Billy and Russell Groves.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 13 from 1:00 PM until funeral service begins at 2:00 PM at Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton. Rev. David Blevins will officiate. Interment will follow at Remington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Remington Vol. Fire and Rescue Company, PO Box 159, Remington, VA 22734 or to the Remington Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 337, Remington, VA 22734.
