Patrolman Welford Green was shot and killed after responding to a domestic dispute at a local restaurant.

While the officer was talking with the parties, the male was able to grab a shotgun and open fire, killing Patrolman Green.

On December 22, 1948, Officer Welford E. Green gave his life in the line of duty. While attempting to mediate a domestic dispute, Green was fatally wounded by a person who fired a shotgun at close range.
Before he became a member of the Division, Green served in the United States Army. At the time of his discharge, he was stationed in Oklahoma. He became a police officer with Henrico County Division of Police on November 30, 1943. Henrico Police Foundation; P.P. Box 3165, Glen Allen, VA 23058

THURSTON, Odell Parron, 102, of Henrico County, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack O. Thurston; son, Edgar Burrow Marks; parents, Edgar Burrow Parron and Pearl Lee Parron. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn M. Marks; grandchildren, Kimberly Marks Campbell, Karen Marks Harrington; great-grandchildren, Travis Walker Harrington, Ian Spencer Campbell, Caroline Odell Campbell and Christian Graydon Campbell; and her special friend and caregiver, Elva Carroll. Odell was a member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church. She was a deeply devoted daughter, mother and grandmother. Family will receive friends at 1 p.m. November 24, 2009 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va., where services will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
