GALESBURG - William James "Jim" Green, 87, 550 E. Carl Sandburg Drive, died at 10:34 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 5, 2005) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born July 9, 1918, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., the son of Irving E. and Anna Crammond Green.
He married Virginia Maxwell on June 21, 1941, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, W. James Green Jr., Denver, and John M. Green, Galesburg; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
He served in the Army during World War II in Europe.
He graduated from Ticonderoga High School in 1936, and graduated from Pratt Institute in New York City with an engineering degree.
He worked as a civil engineer for A.T. and T. for eight years and Butler Manufacturing for eight years. He later was a self-employed engineer for many years, retiring in 1983. He had lived in Galesburg since 1952.
He was a member and past president of the Galesburg Noon Lions Club and was a former member of the District 205 Board of Education.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served on all boards of the church, was a member of the choir, and helped cook at Lenten breakfasts.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Christine Stewart Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
