Born in Baden, Germany, she married John House III in May 1817 and started the long journey to the United States. During the journey, her father-in-law, John House II, died and was buried at sea.

They landed in Baltimore, Maryland and from there set off for Adams County, Pennsylvania. They made that area their home until migrating to Prince William County, Virginia in 1822.

In 1836, they departed there to move farther west and ended their journey in Mooresville, Indiana. She and her husband became active members in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Mooresville.

Her obituary says, "She met death without any dread or fear --- passed quietly away as if she were going to sleep. It may truly be said of Mother House, she rests from her labors and her works do follow her. Her life was a living epistle, read and known of all who knew her. She leaves the husband of her youth, with children and a large circle of relatives and friends, to mourn their loss, while she has passed to the Eden above to dwell forever, and will welcome all her friends that follow."
