Misc. Notes
Burried beside her mother in Old Mooresville cemetery.
Barbara House was the youngest of a large family who emigrated from Baden, Germany to America. During the voyage, her father, John House II, died and was buried at sea. The ship landed in Baltimore, Maryland where Barbara stayed while her family moved to Pennsylvania. After 3 years, they all moved to Virginia and finally to Mooresville in 1839. She married
Christian Butner on Oct. 23, 1842 (his obituary says 1848). Her family were Lutherans, but she joined Christian Butner's Methodist Episcopal Church during revival under Rev. John B. Birt. The day before she died, Barbara told her family members, "My home is in paradise, where all good people are."
At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband, Christian Butner; her brothers,
John and Michael House; and her sister,
Catherine (House) Rusie.
