Obituary - JOHN A. BUTNER was born March 12th, 1833, in MArion County, Indiana, near what is now Friendswood. His father moved to Mooresville in 1839. He went to school until he was 17 years old and at that time, his father apprenticed him to the cabinet business. Afterwards, he went to Iowa and Oregon but returned to the cabinet business in Mooresville.

He served in the Civil War from 1861 to 1864.

He was united in marriage to Mrs. NANCY GREGORY, December 30th, 1869. 2 children, girls, were born to them, ANNA and CORA, the former 12 and the latter 10 years of age, who survive him. NANCY, his wife, died August 19th, 1881. He died February 4th, 1883.
