Beloved Husband of Lillian (Moore)Shanafelt and loving son of Samuel and Catherine (Rusie) Shanafelt. He was born in Mooresville, Indiana and had a brother Henry 'Vos' Cavosso Shanafelt and a sister Sarah (Shanafelt) Bailey.

Ed and Lillian had five sons, 1. Ralph Otto Shanafelt (m. Bessie Hackney); 2. Howard Cecil Shanafelt (m. Mattie Reed); 3. Clyde Shanafelt (died at birth); 4. White Henry Shanafelt (m. Della Diane Baumbach); and 5. Rody Rusie Shanafelt (m. Autry Bruce).


Services for E.C. Shanafelt were held at the Central Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Jerry Boles, pastor and Rev. Jack Southerland, pastor of First Baptist. Mr. Shanafelt was Presbyterian.

Mr. Shanafelt moved to Jones County with his family in 1909 and farmed. He bought the family farm in 1912.

As a child, his family brought him to Texas in 1877 by train to Fort Worth and then to Bryson. Mr. Shanafelt recalled many stories about the frontier and his life.

At the time of his death, he was survived by four sons; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
