THE CULPEPER EXPONENT
Thursday, March 16, 1922

Mrs. Annie Mildred Hoffman Bruce, who died March 9th, 1922, was born Sept. 29, 1874, making her stay on earth forty-seven years, five months and seventeen days. On Jan. 19th, 1898, Mildred Hoffman was married to Joseph L. Bruce. To this couple were born ten children, seven daughters and three sons, losing three of her little girls in infancy, and two after they had attained their womanhood.

Deceased is survived by five children, her husband, mother, four sisters and five brothers, besides many other relatives and friends who mourn her loss.

Mrs. Bruce had united with the Bethseada Church, at Brightwood, Madison County, nearly thirty years ago, and had been always a faithful member. A devoted and loving companion to her husband, a kind and loving mother, a good neighbor, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Bruce had been in poor health for more than a year, and a great sufferer during the last few months of her illness, but never murmured over her affliction. Realizing her condition, she expressed the hope of a life in a better land, saying that what she dreaded most was leaving her children. When the end came she was fully conscious saying to those around her "I am dying. Do not leave me."
