Funeral services were held Sunday, January 15, from Guest funeral chapel, for Joseph Lester Bruce, who died at his residence on Sperryville Road, Friday, January 13, following a period of more than a year of ill health, aged 82 years. The Reverend W. R. Jones, of Bethsaida Methodist Church, Brightwood, was assisted by the Reverend W. Franklin Cale, of Culpeper Baptist Church, in conducting the last rites. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carroll Hoffman, William Hoffman, Gabriel Hoffman, Lawrence Hitt, Ashby Clatterbuck, Walter Johnson, Jr.

Son of the late Joseph Lester Bruce and Lucy James Ford, his wife of Madison County,
Mr. Bruce is survived by his wife, Mrs. Esther Breeden Bruce, and seven children: a daughter, Mrs. George S. Blankenbaker of Culpeper, and three sons, Robert C. Bruce of Culpeper, Eppie L. Bruce of Norfolk and Joe T. Bruce of Waterbury, Connecticut, by his first marriage to the late Mrs. Annie Mildred Hoffman, of Madison County; and Mrs Dorothy M. Williams of Fredericksburg, William E. Bruce and Charles L. Bruce of Washington, D.C., by his second marriage. Also, surviving are 10 grandchildren.
