Sarah Ann Kerlin was the daughter of John Patterson and Charlotte Allen (Sayers) Kerlin. She was the third of six children.

In Washington, District of Columbia, on 22 April 1931, she married Carl William Wolf, son of John William and Josephene Elizabeth (Berger) Wolf. Together, Sarah and Carl raised two children.

Sarah was the granddaughter of Newton and Annie (Allen) Sayers of Nokesville, Virginia and David Franklin and Anna (Bowman) Kerlin of Brentsville, Virginia.
