Andrew is the eighth child and fifth son of John WILLIAM Shanafelt [Shaneyfelt]. His mother, most likely, was Margaret [Anna] (Gessinger). On the 1776 ‘Elizabeth 100' census, the year Andrew was born, his mother (who would have been pregnant with him at the time) was listed as ‘Anna'.

He was the beloved husband of Sarah Elizabeth Saylor whom he married in Washington County, Maryland on 10 Apr 1801. They became the parents of:

Andrew did not live long enough to know his grandchildren. On 11 Nov 1823, his death was acknowledged in the newspaper as "Died Sunday morning last at his residence about 3 miles from this town, Andrew Shanafeld, in the 46th year of his age." The Maryland Herald and Hagers-Town Weekly Advertiser - Washington County, Maryland, reference number 381. With Andrew dying in 1823 and his wife dying in 1834, the siblings were placed in the position of depending on one another for comfort and guidance. 35
