David Shanafelt moved from Indiana to Sigourney, Iowa in 1854.

David was Christened 3 June 1814, by his parents, in the Zion Reformed Church, Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland.
He married Charlotte House, 28 March 1839, in Morgan County, Indiana. They had their first child, Elizabeth on 28 July 1840. Three months later on 3 November 1840, their infant daughter died and she is buried in the Old Mooresville Cemetery, Morgan County, Indiana. Their other children: Catherine, Amanda, John, Saylor, Charlotte and Charles. 
After Charlotte's death in 1864, David marries Clarissa (Parrish) Carter in 1870.

Believe that Clarissa (Parrish) Carter Shanafelt was the daughter of Joshua Parrish of Ipava, Fulton County, Illinois, married 1st - John Carter; she was born 04 July 1825 and died 01 August 1897; supposed to be buried in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington County, Iowa but find no record.
