Washington, lowa. Mrs. Wesley Shanafelt [Shaunfelt] died Wednesday afternoon, after an illness extending over more than two years. She died of cerebral-hemorrhage and died suddenly. She was born in Ohio, August 29, 1843, and came to Iowa as a girl. She was a daughter of Samuel Carter. Her husband was here in the lumber business for a good many years before he retired. Wesley Shanafelt died Sept. 3, 1915, at the age of 74, having been born May 22, 1841. The children are Mrs. [Lizzie] Smith and Oacle, who live in Chicago; Miss Edith Shanafelt who lives in Davenport, and Clarence lives at Seymour, Iowa. He is married to a daughter of Sue Lytle of this city. He has a boy and Mrs. Smith has three children, two girls and a boy, so there are four grandchildren. As this is written, it is impossible to get the funeral data, but she will be buried in Elm Grove by the side of her soldier husband. Mr. Shanafelt was a soldier in the Civil war and was a fine gentleman, and they are all splendid people. Mrs. Shanafelt was a very fine woman and highly esteemed in her neighborhood.
