"R. Earl Carter, Sr.
R. Carl Carter Sr., 65, of Locust Hill died Tuesday, Aug. 20 in Williamsburg
Community Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lena Martin Carter; a daughter, Mrs. Betty
C. Couch of West Point; a son R. Earl Carter Jr. of Williamsburg; his
step-mother, Mrs. Evelyn C. Carter of West Point; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby C.
Jones of Richmond and Mrs. Susan C. Boughton of West Point, five brothers,
Alexander Carter of Locust Hill, Milton Carter of Deltaville, Henry Carter of
Mifflintown, Pa., Carroll Carter of West Point, and Larry Carter of
Mattaponi; and five grandchildren.
The funeral was held Thursday in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home in Saluda.
He was buried in Sunny Slope Cemetery in West Point."

Sorry, the death notice was in the Tidewater Review paper dated Wednesday 28
August 1985. On the headstone in Sunny Slope Cemetery it has Russell E.
Carter 1920 - 1985. I have seen it.

LOCUST HILL - Lena Martin Carter, 77, of Locust Hill, formerly of West Point, Va., died Tuesday, October 22, 2002. She was a member of First Baptist Church of West Point. Her husband, Russell Earl Carter, preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Betty and Bobby Couch of West Point; a son and his wife, Robert Earl Jr. and Andrea Carter of Middlesex; a sister, Mable Biegar of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Belinda Eveland, David Couch, ReneƩ McKeel, Nathan Couch, Monica Andrews, Russell Carter; seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, Va. Burial in Sunny Slope Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of West Point , Box N, West Point, VA 23181.
