Obituary
Beloved son of Samuel and Catherine Ann Matilda (Rusie) Shanafelt; and beloved husband of his Indiana sweetheart, Alice C. (Worth) Sheets whom he married in Weatherford, Texas on January 10, 1894.

PROMINENT PIONEER BURIED:
H. C. "Vos" Shanafelt, 85, pioneer business man and ranchman of Bryson, died at his home at about 10 o'clock
Tuesday morning from a heart trouble. He had been
confined to his room most of the time during the winter and
spring, and his strength gradually waned. His advanced age
and his physical infirmities were causes which contributed
to his death.

Mr. Shanafelt was born in Indiana and came to Young county when he was nineteen and was a clerk in the store of John E. Morrison for some time. He formed a partnership with A. J. Birdsong about 1892, and later bought the interest of Mr. Birdsong. He was married in 1894, at Weatherford to Alice C. (Worth) Sheets, who lived till about 1932.

He was in the general mercantile business in Bryson, Texas for about 30 years and served as president of the Bryson Bank for about 20 years. He enlarged his interests by buying desirable ranch lands and stoking them with cattle.

He had been an active worker in the Methodist church, serving for many years on the board of stewards, and making substantial contributions to the support of its
institutions. The land the church was built on was presented (deeded) by Vos Shanafelt.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. H. Read. Burial followed in the
Cottonwood Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Samuel Arthur Carvoso Shanafelt, of Bryson; two step-children, Mrs. Nellie (Sheets)Shanafelt)Johnson of Wichita Falls and Alexander Worth Sheets Shanafelt of San Diego, California, a sister, Mrs. Sarah Jane (Shanafelt) Bailey of Bryson, and a brother, Ed Shanafelt, of Stamford, besides a number of grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
