Obituary
Beloved daughter of Alexander and Harriet (Glasscock) Worth; and beloved wife of Henry Carvoso "Vos" Shanafelt whom she married in Weatherford, Parker County, Texas on January 10, 1894.

Alice (Worth) Shanafelt was born in Mooresville, Morgan County, Indiana into a large and prominent family. Vos Shanafelt, her Indiana sweetheart was drawn to Texas
in 1877. A few letters survive proving they tried to maintain the relationship. Only they know why Vos did not send for Alice sooner. It is possible that Vos knew the transition would be tough for a city girl. Bryson was a small, undeveloped town compared to Mooresville, Indiana where they grew up. Alice is known to have made the comment that "she came from Indiana and that they had sidewalks you could walk on without getting buried in the mud." On January 27, 1880, Alice married Vos' cousin, John D. ‘Bose' Sheets. They had two children Nellie and Worth Sheets. The marriage was an unhappy one and on June 2, 1890, the marriage ended in divorce. After her divorce,
Alice went to Indianapolis to work as a milliner.

After nearly seventeen years of separation, Vos asked his Indiana sweetheart, Alice (Worth) Sheets, to come to Texas and marry him. She accepted and with her two children, Nellie and Worth, began the journey to Texas. Vos left Bryson in a covered wagon and met them in Weatherford, Texas, where on January 10, 1894, the two were married.

During the winter of 1908, Deborah E. (Worth) Gregory of Indianapolis, Indiana came to Bryson to visit her sister, Alice Shanafelt. One day during her visit, Deborah began telling her sister, Alice's sister-in-law, Sara Jane (Shanafelt) Bailey and Mrs. T. T. Stuart of a club she belonged to in Indianapolis, and how much fun they had. The Bryson ladies expressed their wish to have such a
club here. The ladies held their first meeting on February 5, 1909 with 26 members. The time was spent in visiting and embroidering or other handwork. At first, no refreshments were served, but later they did serve and the membership dropped to 16. It was then decided to limit the
membership to 16. The club was named "Needles, Thread, and Scissors" and was shortened to N.T.S. Club, though some of the men called it "No Tongue Silent." The high points of the year from the N.T.S. Club were always the Halloween party and 4th of July picnic. The first Halloween party was held at the Shanafelt home and was a very elaborate affair.

Along with the N. T. S. Club, Alice loved her family and was active in the Methodist church.

Alice dies on November 9, 1932; funeral services were held at the Methodist church and burial followed in the Cottonwood Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Vos Shanafelt, three children, Mrs. Nellie (Sheets) Shanafelt) Johnson, Alexander Worth Sheets Shanafelt, Samuel Arthur Carvoso Shanafelt, and 12 grandchldren.
