Obituary
He was the son of Michael and Catharine (House) Rusie. He came with his family from Virginia to Indiana in 1836.

He married Mary E. Richardson on April 17, 1853. They had twelve children. Of them were seven sons named Robert, Wallace, Arthur, Leonard, Howard, Raleigh and Brooks and three daughters named Flora Rose Brownfield, Aurora "Ora" Ellen Comer and Carrie Fletcher. Two unnamed children would have died prior to Mrs. Mary (Richardson) Rusie's death in 1888.

Jacob enlisted as a private on December 12, 1863 and in Company C, 33rd Indiana Infantry Regiment on December 21, 1863. He transferred out of Company C into U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps.

He had a boot and shoe shop in Mooresville. He died at the home of his son, Wallace.
